Whites Mill Point II: Affordable Family Homes in Abingdon, VA

October 2024 — VCDC is proud to welcome Whites Mill Point II to our portfolio, a renovated community in Abingdon, VA, bringing 32 affordable homes to low-income individuals and families. The rehabilitation of the apartment homes at Whites Mill Point will significantly increase the quality of living for current and potential new tenants at this community, making it a place where residents are proud to call home.
Whites Mill Point includes two buildings consisting of two-bedroom apartment homes all reserved for households making between 40% and 60% of the Area Median Income. Each apartment unit offers a large balcony/porch facing views of the nearby wooded, serving as a key desirable feature of these charming homes. The major pieces of this renovation project involve rehabilitating HVAC, roof, parking lot, landscaping, appliances, siding, doors, and windows. These renovations and upgrades meet multiple design and green energy requirements to benefit residents including Virginia Housing’s Universal Design, EPA EnergyStar, EarthCraft Gold, and Zero Energy Ready Home.
Whites Mill Point sits just a mile away from multiple amenities including a bank, grocery and discount stores, pharmacies, and a medical center. Residents have access to nearby public transportation.
VCDC has partnered with the developer of Whites Mill Point II, People Incorporated of Virginia (People Inc.), to provide $3,305,758 in Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) equity to this community through the VCDC Equity Fund 26. VCDC has an extensive history of partnership with People Inc. We have provided development advisory services and investments from VCDC Equity funds on over 20 LIHTC-assisted communities developed by People Inc. Most recently, we partnered with People Inc. to develop Luray Meadows in Luray, VA and Culpeper Crossing in Culpeper VA.
