Sweetbriar II: Family homes in Southwest Virginia
February 2022 - Sweetbriar II is the second phase of a housing community in Abingdon, Virginia. Phase II doubles the homes available at Sweetbriar, adding 22 duplex-style homes with three bedrooms designed to serve families and individuals making at or below 60% of the area median income. Five of the homes in Sweetbriar II are constructed to accommodate residents with disabilities.
Ideal for families, the community is only a 600-foot walk to Abingdon Elementary School and within walking distance to a shopping center and grocery store. Additionally, there are many nearby employment opportunities in retail trade that can interest residents looking for convenient and proximal work. Residents will be well taken care of through the community’s partnership with Highlands Community to provide ongoing supportive and independent living services for residents with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities or Serious Mental Illness.
Sweetbriar II is one of the developer’s most energy-efficient communities to date. Amenities are built with high quality, including a high-efficiency heating and cooling system along with energy-saving ventilation and dehumidification systems. Residents can enjoy a community garden that is fully accessible for individuals with disabilities. Each Sweetbriar home contains a full washer and dryer unit.
