Hello: We are VCDC
More than just a name, VCDC has always stood for the idea that all individuals deserve the opportunity to live in neighborhoods that allow them to thrive. Throughout our history we have focused our attention and energy on the communities we serve, rather than self-promotion. We have been fortunate to earn the esteem of our partners who have bolstered our reputation through repeat business and word of mouth.
As we look to the future and begin to engage with a larger geographic footprint, we feel it is important to articulate and convey the key elements of our character and identity with a wider audience. It is easy to rely on facts and figures to communicate our successful history syndicating tax credits and investing equity funds. However, facts and figures fall short of telling the whole story of the good work we love to do. Only when we start to talk about facts and figures in the context of a real story does a clearer picture of who we are and the added value we bring to our partners begin to emerge.
In 2019, along with our staff, Board, partners and a team of experts, we began developing a new strategic plan. From that process it became clear, given our new strategic direction, that it was time for the VCDC brand to more authentically express the work and impact of what we do. We began by exploring our name and the ways we could stay true to the deep roots of Virginia Community Development Corporation while also representing how we have evolved over the years. While Virginia has and always will be our home, we were interested in pursuing a name that did not limit us geographically but also represented our dedication to the mid-Atlantic region. We are now simply VCDC, with our new tagline: Vibrant Communities Drive Change.
By reframing our name and updating our brand and website to match, we have embraced who we have always been: an innovative, mission-driven, problem-solving nonprofit partner dedicated to creating flourishing communities where neighbors thrive in Virginia and beyond. For over 30 years the belief that Vibrant Communities Drive Change has guided everything we do, and now it is at the very core of who we are.
